About
My name is Yomaris Valerio and I go to The Laboratory School of Finance and Technology in the Bronx. I am currently a Junior, and will soon start applying to colleges at the start of my senior year! I am extremely passionate about empowering the people in my community, and I hope that through education and hard work I can become an advocate that breaks through the stereotypical assumptions of who a woman of color from the South Bronx can be. The South Bronx may not be the most economically prosperous, but it is rich in culture, diversity, history, and spirit.
What I’m Raising Money For
Through SEO Scholars(Sponsors for Educational Opportunities), I have been given the opportunity to participate in an experiential and educational month abroad set in Uruguay. This program conducts a talent search across America and around the world to identify extraordinary high school students who are ready for rigorous cross-cultural education programs which will develop their skills as student diplomats. In this particular program, I will partake in activities such as immersing myself in the heart of Gaucho culture, visiting an NGO (non-governmental organization) that serves disadvantaged youth, and learn about sustainable agriculture.
Why You Should Give
I hope that this experience will arm me with the skills and perspectives that I will need to better enact change, and disrupt the status quo that limits the potential of young people like myself from pushing back against the expectations imposed by both the outside world as well as internalized behaviors. Each of your generous donations will get me closer to reaching my goals!
