About

My name is Josiah ElBey, and I am currently a Junior attending the High school of Telecommunications, Arts, and Technology. I am deeply interested in economics and its role in our global financial system. This is why I plan on pursuing an undergraduate degree in Finance , so I may ultimately pursue a career within investment banking and advise clients on the best economic practices for their firms. Through determination and perseverance, I've had the privilege of being a Scholar within SEO (“Sponsors for Educational Opportunity”) ever since my freshman year of high school. SEO interviews, selects, and prepares under-served public high school students for the college application process and for college itself. By the end of high school, SEO Scholars gain a year and a half of additional instruction in math and two and a half years of additional instruction in English on top of work assigned to them in school. SEO has also helped me understand that I must think seriously about my future career and success., I have come to realize that I have many obstacles I must surmount before I reach that ultimate goal of working at an investment bank. I don't come from a wealthy background, and life in the projects of Red Hook, Brooklyn is not easy - hours of studying in smoke filled apartments, parents constantly arguing over where to spend our next paycheck, endless ridicule over wearing the same clothes from last year, the blast of guns, and the wailing of police sirens at night - a daily occurrence. That being said, I am determined to continually improve myself and develop a plan for a great life, for me and my family..

What I’m Raising Money For

My hard work and self-advocacy has enabled me to spend this coming summer at a university where I will be studying macroeconomics, bringing me one step closer to my dream of working at an investment bank. This will be a great opportunity for me to experience both college life & rigor. However, this program is expensive, too expensive for my family to afford. That is why I am now seeking outside help. A contribution of only $15 could cover a portion of the cost of a textbook, $20 could could help with travel expenses or tuition. I won't allow my financial situation get in the way of what I want to achieve, but this effort can't be done alone.Your support would help make my dreams a reality.
