About
My name is Michael Torres and I am a Junior at the Bronx Center for Science and Mathematics. I am President of the Executive Council of Student Government in my school. I also go to the program SEO Scholars, a free eight-year academic program that gets underserved public high school students to and through college. My passions are making sure my student body has a voice in the affairs of the school that every student feels comfortable in their school community.
What I’m Raising Money For
I am raising money to fund my opportunity to learn the language, Arabic, in the country of Jordan. I will live with a host family and go to Arabic classes that will engage my critical thinking. I am also going to participate in cultural enhancement and community service activities where I will engage with Amman's community and interact with many locals. Essentially, I will be fully immersed in the culture of Jordan!
Why You Should Give
This study abroad program would give me the opportunity to immerse myself in the culture of Amman, Jordan. This once-in-a-lifetime experience would provide me with the skills of a strong learner, leader, and civil servant. I want to come back from this program having succeeded breaking language barriers and stereotypes and with a much wider perspective of the world. The funds would help reduce the burden of the cost of expenses and assist me in my preparation for the trip.
