About
Hi! My name is Gwendolen Huo. I am a current Junior at Eleanor Roosevelt High School. At school, I'm part clubs such as Girl's Varsity Table Tennis Team, ElRo Experiment (Science Magazine), and Yearbook Club. During my free time, I like to write short stories, draw and swim. I'm also a part of SEO Scholars, an eight-year academic program to help students get in and graduate college/university.
What I’m Raising Money For
This summer I will have the opportunity to travel all around Germany to learn about peace and democracy for four weeks. I will have the chance to visit many cities and countries such as Cologne, Bonn, and Niederalteich as well as the Netherlands and Belgium. During my trip, I'll visit historical sights such as the Cologne Cathedral, different EU institutions, and the German Bundestag. I will also participate in debates on issues about the refugee crisis and the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership. Besides from the educational aspect, I'll be able to experience German culture by staying with a host family and attend classes with my host siblings.
Your contribution will cover the cost of transportation, tuition for me to get to Germany.
Why You Should Give
Since the 9th grade, I've been dedicated to learning and becoming more cultured/knowledgeable. Through this experience, I will be able to get a well-rounded understanding of how the EU operates and various European cultures. Furthermore, by getting a worldly experience and traveling to Germany, I can learn about how the political, social and economic issues of Europe affect the diverse groups of people around the world. This knowledge will enable me to interact with another culture on a level that I won't be able to back home in the United States.
