About
Hi! My name is Nourin Haque, and I'm a sixteen year-old junior at Manhattan Center for Science and Mathematics in New York City. I was born in Sylhet, Bangladesh, but I have lived in the Bronx for the majority of my life. My passions include the sciences, and, more specifically, chemistry and biology. Being a future first-generation college student, my education is of the highest value to me, and I wish to pursue a major in Biochemical Engineering once I enter college. In order to secure this dream, I participate in a program called SEO where the students devote their weekends and their summer to learning. On my free time I enjoy reading, canvas painting, and exploring my city. New York City is as large as the number of people it holds, and it seems like everyday I discover a new person or a different place!
What I’m Raising Money For
Living in one of the most culturally diverse cities, the exhilaration that follows experiencing a new culture remains an unparalleled sensation. This summer, I am participating in a cultural immersion and language study program that will allow me to travel to China. At the age of fourteen, I was luckily able to take a Mandarin class that was offered by my middle school. The experience of learning the basics of the language was amazing, and I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to further my knowledge of Mandarin and Chinese culture this summer.
Why You Should Give
In addition to learning the language of Mandarin and immersing myself in Chinese culture, this program will allow me to venture out of my comfort zone and ultimately develop my independence as a future college student. The money that I am raising will go towards the expenses of this program and will also allow students to pursue opportunities like mine in the future.
