About
My name is Adiba Hussain and I am currently a junior at the High School of Economics and Finance. I have a huge passion for writing and telling peoples' stories, including my own. I am an active member of my school community and I participate in activities like the school newspaper and National Honor Society. During the week, I also participate in programs like College Now, which provides free college credit classes to high school students, and SEO Scholars, an eight-year program that provides low-income minority students like myself resources to get us to and through college.
What I’m Raising Money For
I am raising money for my Summer Travel Immersion Program. I will be going to the country of Jordan to study Arabic for six weeks. I will be staying with a host family and taking Arabic classes Sunday through Thursday and exploring the culture and food of Jordan during the weekend. These classes are devoted to cultural enrichment activities like interactive lectures and meetings with Jordanian peers. I will also be doing community service like teaching English as a second language. I will also be doing excursions to sites in and out of the capital of Jordan, Amman like visits to Petra, Wadi Rum, Ajloun, etc.
Why You Should Give
Opportunities like this come once in a lifetime and I have never done a study abroad program before. By going to a Muslim country, I can learn about and share other people's stores. I would like to explore the similarities and differences in experiences the people of Jordan have gone through. I hope to bring us closer to each other through my writing and other means of communication. I believe through this program, I can break through and go against stereotypes and presumptions made concerning the Muslim community and coming back from this Jordan experience can help me.
