About

My name is Allison Cachay, and I am a junior at The High School for Arts and Business. As a Latina woman, I have witnessed social justice issues that affect me, those around me, and those who go through obstacles that I can not even imagine. Growing up in Jamaica, Queens, I went through many experiences in which I felt trapped within my neighborhood. With the help of my determination and SEO Scholars, a highly selective academic program that guides low-income high school students to and through college, I was given the opportunity to expand my horizons to find my passion for law.

What I’m Raising Money For

This summer, I will be able to travel to study law for 3 weeks at an Ivy League university. The program consists of students cultivating skills surrounding United States law at an introductory level, from an attorney, about the legal system in the U.S, what lawyers really do, and how to analyze issues like an attorney, all through real examples and interactive hypotheticals and exercises. Your contribution will cover the cost of transportation, textbooks, tuition, etc. Being exposed to the resources that are not readily available to me will allow me to advance my future, despite being a future first generation college student.

Why You Should Give

The foundation of what I will learn this summer gives me a chance to transform the future that I have been shaping for my past high school years. This program gives me to leave my comfort zone within Jamaica, and ultimately help me build confidence amid my own abilities, strengthen my independence, and college-readiness! By lending your financial support, I will have access to the experience of a lifetime that I could not otherwise access. I yearn to take part of this much-needed development of minorities rising to higher positions of power, and to educate myself in the best ways possible to take what it means to be a Latina woman to a stronger connotation.
