About

Hello, my name is Mark Barrera and I'm a Junior in high school at Manhattan Village academy and I am involved in a program called S.E.O, which is an eight year program that pushes underrepresented bright students to new opportunities and to college!

What you need to know about me is that I love engineering, especially when it deals with hardware. I want to be able to make my ideas into a reality with math and technology, that's why I taught myself programming and I even created the first S.T.E.M club in my school, where I teach students like me the fun of science and technology. To get approval for this I had to get over 50 signatures and conduct presentation with the entire school faculty! Now, is the perfect time for me to further my knowledge base and along with continuing my hard work ethic in order to get closer to my ultimate goal of becoming an electrical engineer.

What I’m Raising Money For

As an aspiring electrical engineering I'm going to need a lot of experience and training to get to where I want to be in life, and now I have my chance. I was given the opportunity to go to Egypt and study engineering, for the next four weeks I will study S.T.E.M based lesson with other like minded high school students from around the world and go out of my comfort zone (especially since I've never crossed the Atlantic before). I think these two aspects are especially important as I prepare to enter college in the next 18 months. College is all about learning more about the world (both educationally and personally). Getting outside of my comfort zone now will only help me when I take that next from High School to College. It is clear from this trip I will learn new and exciting skills which will help build upon my knowledge of engineering and help me grow as person.

Helping me fund this once in a lifetime experience would give me the opportunity to continue my education in engineering and making me a better well rounded person. Plus, you won't be only helping me but other students apart of the program! Every dollar you donate will go to me and other like-minded students that are a part of S.E.O. We would all love to go to our various programs which allow each one of us to define the future of a new and well educated generation. Any donations would be appreciated and used to primarily to help me and other like-minded students.
