About
Hello, my name is Dina Rama and I'm currently a junior at the NYC iSchool, located in Lower Manhattan. Belonging to immigrant parents from poverty-stricken countries, I'm passionate in human rights issues as I've been a judge, coach, and debater for the New York City Urban Debate League since the fifth grade. Being given an opportunity to enroll in high qualitative, American educational institutions by my parents, I continuously strive to be involved in my community, ranging from promoting wildlife conservation to helping isolated senior citizens. In addition to my participation in the community, I'm involved in a college preparatory program, Sponsors for Educational Opportunity (SEO), in hopes of academically preparing myself in applying to competitive colleges in the future. Through my academic success in this program, I and other S.E.O. Scholars have been able in providing hope for other low income students to succeed academically, regardless of socio-economic status.
What I’m Raising Money For
The purpose of my fundraiser is to raise enough money to enroll in a Human Rights-based academic program at a prestigious Ivy League University during the Summer. Through this amazing experience, I will enroll in class discussions and seminars for four weeks with diligent and passionate scholars, such as myself, in improving the community regarding various issues such as human trafficking and healthcare. In addition to enrolling in these courses, this program allows students to conduct a research based project geared towards one specific human justice issue in hopes of educating others and creating immense change within impoverished and underrepresented individuals. In addition to enrolling in the academic curriculum, I will be provided with college one-on-one mentoring and guidance from college alumni and receive letters of recommendation from summer professors to accompany my college applications.
Why You Should Give
This amazing academic program will allow me, as a first generation low income student, to experience the lifestyle as a college student by enrolling in a rigorous academic curriculum, residing on a large college campus, and participating in discussions regarding human activism issues with a diverse group of rising seniors. Furthermore, this contribution will be given towards my future academic success as I will have the experience to balance college-level classes with other programs geared towards my interests regarding improvement in the community. Not to mention, with your contribution, you will providing me this wonderful opportunity in transforming my family history of high school dropouts to immigrant scholars achieving the true American Dream.
