About
Bonjour je m'appelle Fiona Huo! I'm currently a junior at Eleanor Roosevelt High School. At school, I am the co-captain of the Girls Varsity Table Tennis Team, a representative on my school's Student Leadership Team (SLT), and a member of Moden Un and the ElRo Science Magazine. Outside of school, I attend weekly academic programming through SEO Scholars, a college prep program for low-income students. During my free time, I enjoy baking and cheering on the NY Yankees and Rangers.
What I’m Raising Money For
This summer I will have the opportunity to study French at the Centre Méditerraéen d'Études Française in the South of France for one month. I have been actively learning French for 3 years and will have exhausted all the French classes available at my school after this year. I have absolutely fallen in love with the French language and have expanded my vocabulary quite a bit from when I started and only knew Oui! Through my enrichment program, I will have the chance to interact and learn with students from all around the world. It is an amazing opportunity for me to expand my horizons and learn how to collaborate with students from all cultures. Your contribution will cover the cost of transportation, textbooks, tuition, etc.
Why You Should Give
Participating in this program will allow me to improve my French speaking skills and accent since I will be surrounded by the French language 24/7. I can only learn so much about the French culture in a classroom. Actually going to France will allow me to learn from a first-hand perspective. At the same time, I look forward to developing independence because I will be without my twin sister Gwendolen for a month. While it will be bittersweet, I know that finding myself as an individual will be important for when I head off to college in a year.
