About

My name is Bryan Oyuela and I am currently a junior at All City Leadership Secondary School in Brooklyn, NY. At school, I am Vice President of the School and the Treasurer of my class. Recently, I worked alongside many of my peers to put together a successful P.S. I Love You week that promoted Mental Health awareness.

Outside of school, I participate in an 8 year program called SEO Scholars (Sponsors for Educational Opportunity). This is a program that aims at getting underprivileged students from New York through High School and College. I spend about 10+ hours a week making good use of the opportunities that have given to me through this program. 2 hours are spent during the week after school, and the other hours are spent on Saturdays from 8 A.M. to 4 P.M.

What I’m Raising Money For

This summer, I plan to enroll in an enrichment program in order to take advantage of my time off instead of spending it on video games. I will have the opportunity to travel to Italy for 5 weeks in order to learn Italian and to learn about its interesting culture. My day will consist of traveling around and taking different classes that will help me communicate with the enormous Italian community. I've never been away to a different country, let alone been away from my parents for more than 3 days, so an experience like this will help me build independence as well as help me build stronger networking skills. This will be the first time away from home, so I hope to gain a new perspective on the real world.

Why You Should Give

As a first generation student, I have the opportunity to do what my parents could not do. The sacrificed what they were comfortable with and left their lives behind so that they can build a path of success and excellence for me and my brothers. I hope to one day make them proud and help them see that their sacrifices were worth the trouble in the end.
