About
“My name is Dedwin Marmolejos, and I am a junior at the High School for Environmental Studies. I am a Dominican-American who grew up in the borough of Queens to immigrant parents from the Dominican Republic. I have a great interest in nature and medicine and I aspire to become a Cardiologist because of this. My love for nature and medicine had derived from my participation in a variety of clubs/programs such as Sponsors for Educational Opportunity and Rooftop Garden club in which had have both been apart of for two years.”
What I’m Raising Money For
“The money raised will help support my participation in a Summer Travel Abroad Program in Costa Rica. While many of my friends plan to play video games and watch Netflix this summer, I plan to take full advantage of my summer by participating in this program. I will have the opportunity to explore rainforests, caves, and beaches in Costa Rica while absorbing the country’s vibrant history and culture including a visit to the home of the indigenous Boruca people. This will help bring me out of my comfort zone, gain independence, develop leadership skills, and better prepare myself for college. Your appreciated support will contribute to expenses, such as necessities not covered by scholarships. Please don’t forget to spread the word!”

“I believe that this trip to Costa Rica is a great opportunity for me to understand another culture.The diverse culture of Queens had a great impact on how I view the world and I believe that this trip would allow me to gain the characteristics of maturity and independence in which I could incorporate into my college career. Since the beginning of my high school career, I have worked diligently prepare myself to become the first one in my family to attend and graduate college. Having a transformative summer opportunity would not only help me stay on my road to a successful college completely, but it would also allow me to gain the chance to broaden my cultural perspectives in which I could become a citizen of the world."
