About
My name is Andrea Tendilla. I am currently in the 11th grade in All City Leadership Secondary School. Some of my favorite things to do are try new food from different cultures, practice learning Italian and French, and socialize with new people.
Currently, I am in programs outside of school to enrich my knowledge and involvement in my community: Sister SAGE, a program that empowers younger girls and teaches them how to improve their community, and SEO Scholars, a program that offers college and educational opportunities to marginalized low-income, NYC high school students.
What I’m Raising Money For
I have recently been accepted into a summer program in Ferrara, Italy. While there, I will be learning the language and culture of Italy for the month of July. Going to Italy will not only fulfill my dream of traveling outside the country, but it will also further my socializing skills, build my independence, and enrich my knowledge about a culture other than my own.
In Italy, not only will I take classes to learn Italian, but I will also be interacting with people that have different viewpoints than my own. While some may be afraid of such things, I am excited to become an ambassador for Mexican American students in the United States. I will demonstrate to people in Italy the struggles and responsibility of American students as well as SEO Scholars. I hope that I can learn similar things from those that I encounter on my trip.
Why You Should Give
When I go to my program, I will be able to not just gain new knowledge and skills for myself, but I will be able to pass down my experiences with students that I know. I will be able to teach young girls in Sister SAGE that although they are low-income girls in Brooklyn, they can go beyond just their communities. At the same time, I will build a better reputation between SEO and my program, so other SEO scholars will have a better chance to join programs like mine.
