About
My name is Christiana Kallon, and I am a junior at Manhattan Center for Science and Mathematics. I am apart of a program called SEO Scholars, which is a free eight-year academic program that gets underserved public high school students to and through college. During my free time, I enjoy performing spoken word poetry with a non-profit feminist organization called Girl Be Heard. I know the value of education, and I am dedicated to learn-in and out of the classroom. I hope to double major in business and political science in college.
What I’m Raising Money For
During our 11th Grade year, we Scholars participate in an Enrichment Program during the summer, where we will access a variety of opportunities including traveling abroad, experiencing college life & rigor by attending a pre-college program, gaining an appreciation for the wilderness by exploring natural landscapes, or developing professional expertise by participating in a hands-on internship. In my case, I was nominated for a two-three week cultural immersion program in Colombia. Living with a host family in Popayan, I look forward to exploring the country's dynamic culture and the indigenous Guambiano people. Going to Colombia this summer will help me with my aspirations to become an Ambassador for the United Nations by giving me an opportunity to become exposed to a different narrative. I am excited at the prospect of gaining new perspectives in life and broadening my horizons. I know that there is more than one reality to life in and outside of the United States. This is simply what I would love to experience.
Your contribution will not only cover my cost of transportation, but it will also fund trips to culturally enriching places like historical museums, natural landscapes, and learning about Colombia's dynamic culture through the lens of the indigenous Guambiano people.
Why You Should Give
It is not everyday that an immigrant from Sierra Leone will receive a life-changing opportunity like this one. Enrichment Programs provide a chance for Scholars to leave their comfort zone, and ultimately help them build confidence, independence, and college-readiness! By lending your financial support, I will have access to the experience of a lifetime that I could not otherwise access.

I’m so proud of seeing young women trying to change the world. I donate to this cause because it is empowering. Seeing the genuine interest in learning, becoming open-minded, and wanting to experience life outside of the comfort zone is truly remarkable. -
