About
Hi! My name is Jeysa Martinez and I'm a junior at the High School for Environmental Studies in New York City. I'm seventeen years old and my passions include social activism, the sciences, and politics. During my free time I enjoy reading, writing, and exploring with friends. I'm also a first generation college student and have dedicated my heart and soul into my academics so that I can one day be able to obtain a college degree and become a part of the medical field.
What I’m Raising Money For
I have recently been accepted into program that is giving me the opportunity to Ghana and participate in a global education program. I will be volunteering in schools with children who struggle with the harsh effects of educational inequality. Not only will this experience be life-changing and allow me to gain the sense of independence I have always desired, but it will also allow me to immerse myself in a beautiful culture and give back to a community in need. I will be able to build my leadership skills and learn more about myself as a person while on this trip. Additionally, the money that I raise will not only go towards my summer program, but also allow many other students that come after me to be able to have a transformative summer experience of their own.
Why You Should Give
Although I live in one of the most distinct areas in the world, my life's experiences have been very limited. I've lived in the same area for the past 17 years, and all of the events in my life have been centered around everything I've grown accustomed to. Traveling to another country, getting to know the people living in that area and what their lives are like will allow me to diversify my world view. I will be exposed to a wide array of opportunities and events that I don't necessarily have access to here in the United States. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and I am truly looking forward to it.
