About
Hi! My name is Danielle Henao, and I am a sixteen year old Colombian girl who was born and raised in the Bronx. I am currently a junior at the High School for Environmental Studies. Ever since I was younger, science and math have always been my favorite subjects in school, and I aspire to become an engineer.
What I’m Raising Money For
This summer, I have been given the opportunity to take both non-credit and credit courses pertaining to science, technology, engineering, and math at a prestigious university. For six weeks, me and students from all over the U.S. with an affinity for STEM will attend seminars and participate in highly collaborative hands-on projects to attain the essential skills necessary to pursue and complete majors in STEM fields.
Why You Should Give
As I mentioned, I am a Colombian girl from the Bronx. It is very uncommon for women of color to pursue a career in STEM, as we are very underrepresented. This university is offering students from diverse backgrounds, like me, a once in a lifetime opportunity to pursue our interests and be taught by college professors and graduate students. Personally, I understand that there are challenges in the process of becoming an engineer; however, my participation in this program will put me at an advantage and help put me on the path towards completing my career goals.
