About

Hi! My name is Tracy Okai. I am a Junior at Manhattan Village Academy and an SEO Scholar. I live in the impoverished, but amazing neighborhood of the South Bronx. Although young, I have a deep passion for language and learning the cultures of the many people that inhabit our world.

What I’m Raising Money For

This summer, I will embark on a 6 week journey to a magical place young Tracy couldn't even fathom. After years of listening to the country's music and reading its folktales, I will be going to Moscow, Russia! In Russia, I will be residing in a local school, learning the complex Cyrillic alphabet, interacting with prominent business people, exploring the available career options in Russia, tasting the wonderful food (as well as cooking it!), meeting wonderful new families, and gaining lifelong friendships.

Why You Should Give

I live by a motto of open mindedness. There are a million people I say hi to, and a billion more that I would like to meet. This six week program will aid me in my quest to know more about the world that I live in. I will be culturally immersed in someone's everyday life, in addition to developing an even harder work ethic since I will still be in school. I am comfortable in my everyday life; however, I know that each new day is one step closer to college, which is a world of newness. As a low-income student of color, I haven't had many opportunities to embark on a journey such as this. This program will help me adapt to new experiences with roommates, self-studying, cooking, being independent, and most importantly, furthering my education. I never want to stop learning, and your donation will help me to further expand my mind. Thank you so much!
