About

My name is Melissa Naxi. I’m junior at Richard R. Green High School of Teaching. I’m an aspiring math teacher who is passionate about mathematics and teaching about it. I'm part of the school's newspaper team, student government, and College For Every Student (CFES). Outside of school, I'm an SEO Scholar in Sponsors of Educational Opportunity where I take academic classes to build fundamental college skills. During my leisure time, I love to play softball and draw in my sketchbook.

What I’m Raising Money For

Through SEO, I was nominated to travel to Egypt and immerse myself into the Egyptian culture and the language Arabic through my travel abroad program. I will attend Arabic classes, live with a host family, and travel to historical sites of the country for 4 weeks. As a student from a low-income family, this is a special opportunity that comes once in a lifetime. Not only traveling abroad will help expand my horizons and learn how to interact with different people, it will help me step out of my comfort zone. I appreciate any donation of any size, so every dollar counts!

Why You Should Give

Since I want to become a math teacher, going to my travel program will give me the skills to communicate with different people regardless of language barriers. In college, I will use the communication skills from my travel abroad program when I interact with new students and professors. In addition, traveling will teach me how to adapt to a new environment by familiarizing myself with the country's landmarks. This skill will help me when I attend college where I would live inside of a campus and adapt to the neighboring area. Overall, I'm grateful for earning this opportunity to travel because of my determination and good work ethic in school and in SEO.
