About

Hi my name is Rafael Solis and I am currently a junior at the Facing History High School. On any given day you could catch me in between college classes at John Jay, at home, or at SEO ( A program I have been apart of since my freshman year of high school). SEO Scholars is a free eight-year academic program that gets undeserved public high school students in New York City to and through college—with a 90% college graduation rate. While this program has eaten up the majority of my Saturdays since joining, I have never had any regrets as the benefits the program offers has helped me develop both intellectually and as a person. As of late, one of the benefits the program has presented to me is the chance to travel abroad.

What I’m Raising Money For

Every summer, a select few of SEO's rising seniors are nominated to participate in a myriad of experiential programs. Through this opportunity, I and other scholars are able to travel the world to exotic places, interact with the locals, and immerse ourselves in a culture far beyond the reach of New York City. I will be travelling to New Zealand where among other things, I will be staying with a host family, exploring the islands natural attractions and visiting local schools to better understand the locals day to day life.

Why You Should Give

Enrichment programs offer a chance for scholars like myself to step out of their comfort zone, and ultimately help build confidence, independence, and college-readiness. By lending your financial support, I will be able not only be able to partake in a lifetime experience abroad, but I will also be able to take the unique experiences I had abroad, and be able to carry these values back home with me to better enrich those around me and my neighborhood .
