About
My name is Gissell Lugo and I’m a junior at Richard R Green High School of Teaching. I have great interest in art and the study of other cultures. I am a student that is very hard working and invested in my educational development. Additionally, I spend extra hours after school getting my assignments done as well as spending time with my teachers, asking them questions about the lesson and class work that I am having trouble understanding.
What I’m Raising Money For
This summer, through an enrichment program with SEO, I will have the opportunity to travel to France, Nice. Additionally, throughout this month long program I’ll be learning about the French language and culture. With 60 hours of French language lessons and activities that include the exploration of the area, I will be able to immerse myself in a community that exhibits pride in their language and history. Moreover, I admit to being an introverted individual. Still, because I aspire to expand my horizons and allow my character to flourish I am compelled to be a part of this program. It will encourage me to move out of my comfort zone, gain independence, and develop networking skills that will be necessary for my future college experience. Furthermore, I am one who believes that language is one of the greatest barriers that can exist between people in a community. Thus, this opportunity holds a lot of importance to me because it will provide me with the tools needed to learn a new language and explore a new culture, especially one that is divergent from my own. So while I’m waiting for my acceptance letter, your donation will ensure that I have the funds available for this once in a lifetime opportunity.
Why You Should Give
I’m a student that has worked tirelessly throughout my educational career to prepare myself to be the first in my family to attend and graduate college. Being able to travel to another country and learn their language would be an opportunity of a lifetime, and it will allow me to grow and develop skills that will make me successful in college. Such skills include communication and networking.

Huge proponent of opening our students eyes to world outside the one they already know. I haven't spent time in France, but have loved my travels in parts of Europe.
