About
This free community event not only showcases the talents of our students, it will also further expose our community to Latinx culture, and raise awareness about positive people making a difference in/from our area. Last year we had over 1,000 guests attend the festival. Guests enjoyed all aspects of the festival, including traditional Día de los Muertos altar viewing, gallery exhibitions, live performances, a community parade, family games & activities, face-painting, and much more. This year we expect our numbers to grow.
In hopes of strengthening our initiatives and better grasping event planning and facilitating on a larger scale, each year we also take a small group of our student ambassadors (who are leaders in the festival planning and execution) to different cities around the country to experience other Día de los Muertos festivals/events. While on this 5 day art and culture expedition, students expand our network by visiting and interning with museums, cultural centers, and other artists’ communities. We have previously traveled to Austin, Texas and Los Angeles, California. This year we hope to strengthen and enlarge our students’ knowledge and skills by making a trip to Albuquerque and Santa Fe, New Mexico.
What I’m Raising Money For
We are raising money for our ever-growing festival and field trip needs. Since we create almost everything for the festival from scratch, many supplies are needed every year to make the festival a success. We also would like to include more community performances and involvement over all. In addition to funding for the festival, we are in need of funding to make it possible for all our student ambassadors to be able to go on the field trip to New Mexico.
