About
In July of 2016, Queens of Chess in Kings County (QCKC) was established in the hopes of encouraging young girls (7-12 years old) to learn the classical game of Chess. The inspiration for the club was my 9 year-old niece, a student of the game, who beat me at chess; trust me I was not easy on her! Not only did she beat me at chess that week at my friend’s home, she also beat the other adult, who played the game. She was so good at the game that I told her she can’t quit it. She said she would take the class again but not if she was the only girl. Her motivation to play was limited by the lack of other girls her age playing chess. How could I not do something about that?! With the help of close friends and family, Queens of Chess Kings County was born and has blossomed into an outstanding outlet for young girls who are interested in mastering the art of chess.
Our mission is to empower girls through the game of chess while developing their ability to strategize both on and off the board. Many studies show that playing chess sharpens children’s minds. Check out the research compiled here https://www.chesshouse.com/why_study_chess_a/108.htm and here http://examinedexistence.com/does-playing-chess-make-you-smarter/. With an active and enthusiastic members list, it is our goal to provide an exceptional and educational experience that will improve our girls’ acumen not only in chess but in life too!
What I’m Raising Money For
For more than a year 10+ Brooklyn girls have pushed past being the only girl or one of the few girls at their school interested in playing and gathered together to practice chess. Now, they have the chance to be in match after match with other girls from all over the USA who love to play chess. That's where you come in... Will you help these girls to experience chess on a national level and compete against other girls?
Why You Should Give
Donations to Queens of Chess in Kings County will provide out girls with the privilege of competing in the Girls National Chess Championship in Chicago, Illinois. If we exceed our goal it won’t stop there! Your donation will also help QCKC become a registered non-profit organization. By the way our earlier goal was an estimate and did not take into account the rising cost of airfare and the fact that we will be responsible for all meals at hotel and airport prices for 3.5 days!
Every dollar counts! No contribution is too big or too small! We promise to share pictures, reflections and thank you notes. We appreciate your support!

Thank YOU from the Queens of Chess in Kings County!
Update from Kim Kirkley
Dear One: We are more than half-way there! Thank you so much! As we count down the days to the start of the 15th Annual All Girls National Chess Championships in Chicago, we are most grateful to people like you who make our work and the program possible through your support. Thank you for your generous gift. It not only provides scholarships for promising young girls to experience the wonders of chess in an all girl national setting, it also supports the mission of the Queens of Chess in Kings County. On April 19th, we will take flight and land in Chicago to join girls and their supporters from all over the nation. We look forward to this synergy and know it will empower our girls to serve as models for their peers when they return to their homes with enthusiasm, energy and ideas for making good choices on and off the chess board. We are delighted with the growing number of donors who share our commitment to make a difference through chess. Thank you again, for your generosity. With warm regards, Kim Kirkley, Esq. Founder P.S. We now have a public Facebook page. If you would like it and share it with your friends that would be very helpful. https://www.facebook.com/Queens-of-Chess-in-Kings-County-Public-Page-565922807140218/?ref=br_rs
